Douglas County (Colorado)

The Douglas County [ dʌgləs ] is a county in the central part of the U.S. state of Colorado. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Castle Rock.

Geography

The southwestern part of the county is crossed by the Rampart Range, the easternmost mountain range of the Rocky Mountains. This densely forested mountain landscape is separated from the South Platte from the Front Range and also forms the border with the neighboring district of Jefferson. As well as the southern parts of the Front Range was declared the Rampart Range of the Pike National Forest.

History

Douglas, named after the U.S. politician Stephen Arnold Douglas, is in its current district boundaries since 1874, but was in 1861 with headquarter offices Franktown ( 1861-63 ) and California Ranch ( 1863-74 ) on the newly created Colorado Territory to the original 17 administrative units.
