Chatfield Reservoir

The Chatfield Lake, also Chatfield Reservoir is a 599 -acre reservoir at the base of the Rocky Mountains in the U.S. state of Colorado.

Owned by the city of Littleton Reservoir is about 30 km southwest of Denver city center - just outside of the metropolitan area on both sides of district boundaries of Jefferson and Douglas County.

Chatfield Dam

The Chatfield Lake was created by a 1975 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ( " Corps of Engineers U.S. Army " ) completed dam to stem of the South Platte River, which caused such a devastating flood disaster in Douglas County last on 16 June 1965 that eight people loss of life, property damage incurred in the millions. Today, four kilometers long and up to 45 meters high Chatfield Dam is one of three large dams, which are intended to protect the Denver metropolitan area from flooding. Before that - in 1950 - was already the dam at Cherry Creek Lake, while the last one on Bear Creek Lake was completed in 1982.

Chatfield Park

The lake is founded in 1975 as part of Chatfield State Park, a popular recreation area, which is annually visited by about 1.5 million people for boating and water skiing, but also for swimming and fishing. Between the Denver Metro area, and the Pike National Forest of Chatfield State Park overlooking the foothills of the Front Range also a popular campsite with plenty of hiking and biking trails.
