Elbert County (Colorado)
The Elbert County [ ɛlbɚt ] is a county located in the central to western part of the U.S. state of Colorado. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Kiowa.
Geography
The County is located southwest of the metropolitan area of Denver and is surrounded by the districts in the north of Arapahoe, Lincoln in the west and south, El Paso in the southwest and Douglas in the west.
History
Elbert County was created on February 13, 1874 from the western part of so far -reaching to the border with Kansas District Douglas and the Northern region of dissolved this day with the district Greenwood. On April 11, 1889 Elbert lost its western territories to the newly created administrative districts Lincoln, Kit Carson and Cheyenne.

According to the census of 2000, there were 19,872 people in the county. There were 6,770 households and 5,652 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 95.22 percent White, 0.64 percent African American, 0.63 percent Native American, 0.37 percent Asian, 0.09 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 1.28 percent from other races groups; 1.76 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.85 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 6,770 households out of which 42.8 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 75.1 percent were married couples living together, 5.7 percent were single mothers. 16.5 percent were non-families. 12.2 percent of all households and 3.1 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.93 and the average family size was 3.19 persons.
Based on the county the population was spread from 30.2 percent population under 18 years, 5.5 percent between 18 and 24 years, 32.8 percent between 25 and 44 years, 25.5 percent between 45 and 64 years and 6.0 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 100.6 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.9 males.
The median income for a household was $ 62,480, and the median income for a family was $ 66,740. Males have a median income of $ 45,329, women $ 29,767. The per capita income was $ 24,960. 4.0 percent of the population and 2.5 percent of families are below the poverty line. Among them were 4.6 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 4.5 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
