Elbert County (Colorado)

The Elbert County [ ɛlbɚt ] is a county located in the central to western part of the U.S. state of Colorado. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Kiowa.

Geography

The County is located southwest of the metropolitan area of ​​Denver and is surrounded by the districts in the north of Arapahoe, Lincoln in the west and south, El Paso in the southwest and Douglas in the west.

History

Elbert County was created on February 13, 1874 from the western part of so far -reaching to the border with Kansas District Douglas and the Northern region of dissolved this day with the district Greenwood. On April 11, 1889 Elbert lost its western territories to the newly created administrative districts Lincoln, Kit Carson and Cheyenne.
