Lamia

Lamia (Greek Λάμια ) was the daughter of the god Poseidon and Libya. Later she was Queen of Libya and a lover of Zeus. This gave her the ability to take their eyes from their sockets. Zeus fathered a son with her, but was killed by his ever- jealous wife, Hera. From grief and anger over the loss of her child turned Lamia her head in a snake head (similar to the Medusa ) and began to kill the children of other mothers, skinning, dismembering and eating.

In Greek mythology, the ghouls to have been named after this Lamia. Lamia is also known as mother of the first Sibyl.
