Lammefjord

The Lammefjord [ lɑməfjo ː ʔʀ ] is a Fördenarm in the Danish area Odsherred, northwest of Holbæk. After diking and draining of 6000 ha until the early 20th century, the largest part is used for agriculture. The name Lammefjord is used here for both the dry land and put the remaining bay in Isefjorden.

History

Originally Odsherred was a peninsula, which was only connected by the narrow Isthmus Draget with Sealand, which was guarded by the Castle drag spar.

1841 began the construction of a dike at the near Sidingefjord, and the experience has been used in the Lammefjord embankment.

The project was proposed by Lehnsbaron Zytphen - Adeler, who lived on drag spar.

Before the project began in 1873, the Lammefjord was so flat that you could wade through large parts at low tide. However, much water had to be pumped out and many drainage ditches were to be created. Everything was done by hand, and horse drawn carriages could only be used when the country was sufficiently dried out.

The construction of the Audebodamms lasted about two years. Later he was again reinforced after threatening to beat 1921 water over the dam in a north westerly storm in October.

Today, the Lammefjord is a flat piece of land, particularly evident on the road from Gislinge after Fårevejle, which is extremely long, straight and flat. However, there are also some surveys, the islands were formerly in Lammefjord.

Drainage

The Lammefjord got two channel systems: first the country channel, which surrounds the area at sea level along the former shoreline and eastward into the rest - Lammefjord and westward to the Sejerø Bay. 2 the drain passage extending through the deepest regions of the previous seabed and thus requires a pump station in Audebo. She was previously powered by wind and steam power until in the 1920s, an electric drive has been installed.

For technical and economic reasons, the lowering of the water level was carried out in stages. The poop was delayed because of the sluggish land sales and in the meantime due in the 1930 renewal of the pumping systems. Even World War II did the rest.

1943 was finally reached at a water level of -7 m and the last remnant of the reclaimed water body disappeared.

The dewatering stages at a glance:

  • January 1875: 0 m
  • September 1875: -2.7 m
  • 1882: -3.8 m
  • 1906: -4.75 m
  • 1943: -7 m

To date, water is pumped out, because rain water is added. Average promote the pump 16 million cubic meters a year. A millimeter of rain in Lammefjord area gives 60,000 cubic meters of water in the country channel.

Economic use

The reclamation of the seabed was a lot of hard work, but the result was an extremely fertile piece of land. Particularly well-known products today are potatoes and carrots, but also, for example, asparagus and tulips are grown. Lammefjord carrot ( " Lammefjordsgulerod ") is a registered trademark in the EU quality brand order.

Also, is dug in places after remaining shells, which are used as addition of lime in animal feed.

Traffic

Before the embankment of the road to Odsherred was associated with a ferry or by way of Draget. The dam allowed for additional road links. The Odsherredbahn OHJ ( Holbæk -. Nykøbing Sj) leads through the reclaimed area.
