Land of Uz

Uz is the country in which the biblical figure of Job (Job ) lives (Job 1.1 EU). The land of Uz is mentioned in ( Jer 25,20 EU) and in (Lam 4.21 EU) except in the Book of Job.

Where exactly was Uz is unknown. Two locations are in the research mainly discussed: Edom, the area east of the southern part of the Jordan valley, and Aram in the vicinity of Mesopotamia. Regardless, it must have been reached by the enemies of Job (eg Chaldeans ).

For the message of the book of Job the location of Uz is not of central importance.

People Name

Uz is also a personal and tribal name. After (Gen 10,23 EU) Uz is a son of Aram and grandson of Shem, and is so named as an Aramaic tribe.

Uz is also called the eldest son of Abraham's brother Nahor (Gen. 22:21 EU). By Job is embedded in this relationship context, it becomes clear that the problem of Job - book ( the question of the righteous sufferer ) is a general question of humanity and not just a question of the religion of Israel.

In other respects, it may well play a role where Job was born. The fact that he obviously came from the East (east of Israel), shows that the Old Testament the people of the Arabian Peninsula damned not a flat rate. On the contrary, there was in the time of the Old Testament God-fearing people who lived in the territory of the later evolving Islam.

If one thinks this further, particularly in relation to Abraham, the progenitor of Israel, who was also the progenitor of the Ishmaelites, the Muslims are the Jews / Christians may be closer than is commonly believed.
