Land Rover Perentie

The Land Rover Perentie is a vehicle of the Australian Army, which will be built in Australia based on the Land Rover Defender 110. The model was introduced in 1987, replaced the earlier Land Rover Series IIA and Series III and is still in use. The cars are available as 4 × 4 - or 6 × 6 model available and are powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine of Isuzu with 3.9 liter displacement. The vehicle proved itself both in Australia as well as in military operations overseas.

The major changes compared to the British Land Rover models are the spare tire under the bed at the rear, a galvanized chassis and the Isuzu engine, which even in the 1980s, usually in the Australian -built, civilian versions with a long wheelbase of the series II, IIA, III and Defender was installed. The 6 × 6 version has a wider cab and a leaf-sprung rear axle. The first order of the Australian Army comprised 2500 4 × 4 and 6 × 6 400 units in the years 1987 to 1990. Trucks came later under the Bushranger project to do so.

The term Perentie is derived from the project Perentie, an official attempt by the Australian Army for finding new one-ton and two-ton vehicles. " Perentie " is the English name for giant goanna, a large Australian lizard.
