Landhaus (Dresden)

The country house in Dresden is one of the political secular works of the city. It was built in 1770-1776 by ​​Friedrich August Krubsacius in Baroque style on the site of the former Palais Flemming Sulkowski. The country and the wheelhouse called building was created as a representative meeting of the electors and, later Royal Saxon country stand. Location

The villa is located on the northwestern end of the Pirnaischer place. It is bordered by the Pirnaischer place in a northwesterly direction to the Neumarkt outgoing Landhausstraße and extending westward Wilsdruffer road. The western end of the forms running between these two roads Friesgasse.

Construction of the house was planned at the end of the 18th century at Pirnaischer Gate in the east of the historic city center and carried out. Later, the razing of the city and the fortress Pirnaische place was developed into the major traffic junction, where the villa is Leitbauwerk today. Due to the large-scale destruction of the city during the Second World War, the house was destroyed. Since the redesign of the Dresden streets Wilsdruffer road was developed as the main highway and thus greatly widened, a part of the front garden of the villa was lost. The eastern wing of the country house was demolished in this context and places the large entrance gate to the front yard to the baroque garden.

Reconstruction

The reconstruction took place until 1965. In 1969 a fountain was covered with river stones on the open space in front of the cottage created. The fountain has the dimensions 4.8 times 4.8 meters. In the center there is a fountain with a Vulkandüse. The basin floor is made of terrazzo. 1990/1991 it was reconstructed.

In the years 2005 and 2006 the building was renovated and provided with an emergency staircase. This post-modern designed construction, which was attached to the gable wall Pirnaischer place is highly controversial in the city.

Use

The actual use as a country house for the purposes of meeting the local representative of the country stand took place from 1776 until 1909. Landhaus was thus seat of the Assembly of the Estates and after the introduction of constitutional government since 1831, the two -chambered assembly of the estates. With the change in 1919 to the parliamentary form of government, the supernatants were removed.

At least since the reconstruction of the building is owned by the city of Dresden, which uses it since then as the headquarters of the Dresden City Museum. Since 2005, the country is also the headquarters of the Municipal Gallery. On 29 November 2006 the new permanent exhibition at the City Museum was opened.
