Landkreis Sprottau

The county Sprottau was a Prussian administrative district in Silesia. It existed between 1816 and 1945. On his previous territory are now the Polish Powiate Żagański and Polkowicki.

The county Sprottau included on 1 January 1945, the three cities Primkenau, Sagan and Sprottau, 102 municipalities and four estate districts ( Forestry and Truppenübungsplatz Neuhammer am Queis ).

Administrative history

Kingdom of Prussia

After the reorganization of the circle outline in the Prussian state after the Congress of Vienna belonged to the reorganization of the administrative districts of May 1, 1816 Sprottau district in the province of Silesia continues to district Liegnitz.

The District Office was in Sprottau.

To January 1, 1820 was the final delimitation of the circle.

  • Reclassification of villages Alt fork, Buckwitz, Cold Briesnitz, Milckau, New fork and Suckau from the circle Frey city in the county Sprottau,
  • Reclassification of villages Girbigsdorf, Kunz village Sagan, Reußenfelde Colonie, Rücker village, and Wittgendorf from the circle into the circle Sprottau Sagan,
  • Reclassification of the village Wengeln from the circle into the circle Sprottau Lüben.

North German Bund / German Empire

Since 1 July 1867, circle the North German Confederation and from January 1, 1871 belonged to the German Empire.

November 8, 1919, the province of Silesia was dissolved. From the administrative districts Breslau and Liegnitz the new province of Lower Silesia was formed.

On September 30, 1929 local government reform took place in the circle Sprottau place according to the development in the rest of the Free State of Prussia, dissolved in nearly all previously independent estate districts and neighboring rural towns have been allocated.

On October 1, 1932, most of the dissolved Sagan circle to the circle Sprottau. On November 25 was designated as the administrative seat for the district Sprottau the city Sagan.

On April 1, 1938, the Prussian provinces of Lower Silesia and Upper Silesia were merged to form the new province of Silesia.

January 18, 1941, the province of Silesia was redissolved. From the previous government districts Breslau and Görlitz the new Lower Silesia province was formed.

In spring 1945 the circle area was occupied by the Red Army and came under Polish administration after.

Communal Constitution

The circle Sprottau initially divided into municipalities, rural communities and independent estate districts.

With the introduction of the Prussian municipality constitutional law of 15 December 1933, issued January 1, 1934 a uniform municipal constitution for all Prussian municipalities. The former municipalities Primkenau, Sagan and Sprottau now were designated city.

With the introduction of the German church order from January 30, 1935 occurred on 1 April 1935 at the German Reich a uniform municipal constitution into force, after which the existing rural communities were now referred to as communities.

On January 3, 1936 was established in sprat break at Primkenau the community Hierl Hagen newly founded, named after the Reich Labor Service Leader Konstantin Hierl.

A new circle Constitution was not created; it still was the district regulations for the provinces of East and West Prussia, Brandenburg, Pomerania, Silesia and Saxony on 19 March 1881.
