Landow Village Church

The village church Landow is the Protestant parish church of the parish Rambin south of the island of Rügen in Dreschvitzer district Landow.

The way to church Landow was built around the year 1312, as have conducted in 2004 found dendrochronological investigations of the built oak wood. It is thus one of the oldest churches on the island of Rügen and should Fachwerkkirchenbau the oldest in northern Germany and throughout the southeastern Baltic region be.

The church was at an old salt and herring trade route. The first mention of a priest in Landow ... plebane (priest) in Landaue dates from the year 1333. In 1369 a Kalandbruderschaft was mentioned, which speaks for the importance of the Church in the Middle Ages.

The original timber-framed building was walled around 1542 bricks. The interior was given a Baroque decoration in the 18th century. From the workshop of the most important sculptor of the Baroque Pomeranian, Elias Kessler from the Hanseatic city of Stralsund, come to the altar, the baptism and the pulpit and the painting of the wooden ceiling of the church. The Attached to the church sacristy was later used as a tomb chapel for the family of the Church cartridge. After 1945, the coffins were removed from the Crypt Chapel and buried in the cemetery.

During the GDR major repairs were last performed in 1959 at the church roof. From the late 1960s, the further preservation of the church building was then questioned, the Consistory of the Evangelical Church in Greifswald saw in 1970, no longer able to provide funds for the outlying church building. In 1982 the church was classified as in danger of collapse, in the 1980s it was also removed from the circle monument list.

The church is now supported by a development association. In her numerous events, including concerts of the Festival Mecklenburg- Vorpommern, instead.

Also worth seeing is the cemetery with some very old grave sites.

Community

The Protestant parish belongs since 2012 to the Provost Stralsund in the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Germany. Previously, it belonged to the church district of Stralsund Evangelical Church of Pomerania.
