Suncorp Stadium ( Lang Park originally ) is a sports stadium in Brisbane, Australia, which offers 52,500 spectators. History

At its present location of the stadium was until 1875 the main cemetery of the city of Brisbane. Due to the strong growth of the city, it was decided in 1911 to close the cemetery and reshape the area into a public park. 1914, the area was fenced off and, after John Dunmore Lang the name of Lang Park.

In 1954, the park by the city council for 21 years on the Queensland Rugby League ( QRL ) was leased. The QRL resulted in the following years by various building projects, which meant that the Lang Park was no longer accessible to the public. 1962, the Lang Park Trust was passed by Parliament, which created the conditions for the establishment of the grandstands Frank Burke Stand (1962), Ron McAuliffe Stand (1975) and Western Grandstand ( 1994).

On April 12, 1958, the first official rugby league match took place in the Lang Park. In the following years some friendly matches of the Australian national teams from different sports were held. By 1972, the stadium was the home of the Western Suburbs Panthers. From 1988 to 1992, the Brisbane Broncos played at Lang Park.

In 1994, the Lang Park the term Suncorp received with the sale of naming rights to the financial institution Suncorp Metway Stadium.

In the late 1990s the decision was made, the Suncorp Stadium to renovate fundamentally. This was only the Western Grandstand receive, all other stands were demolished and rebuilt. The reconstruction began in 2001, was completed after two years and cost a total of 280 million Australian dollars.
