The long fjord is a branch of Altafjords. It lies in the northern Norwegian province (county ) Finnmark about 25 km north- west of the city Alta.

The area around the fjord is largely uninhabited. On the south shore, which is developed from the well developed European Route 6, are the places Storsandnes and Gaddevaggi, both of which consist of only a few farmsteads. The North Shore is just to the west of the provincial road ( Fylkesvei ) 882 accessible. There, the also existing only a few houses settlements Vuojatluckta, Dappeluakta and Tappeluft and the church was built in 1891 Langfjord are kapell. The eastern part of the North Shore is not accessible for motor vehicles. In the fjord there are several fish farms.

During the Second World War, the Langfjord served temporarily as a port for the German battleship Scharnhorst.

The long fjord is framed along its entire length of sometimes over 1000 m high mountains. He is regarded as one of the most picturesque scenery in Northern Norway.
