Langholm

Langholm (Gaelic Langaim ) is a town in the Scottish unitary authority Dumfries and Galloway. It is about 48 km east of Dumfries and 27 km north of the English Carlisle located at Esk. In 2001, Langholm recorded 2311 inhabitants.

In 1455 James II ended the dynasty of the Black Douglas by a victory at Langholm. 1621, the town was a burgh. Near the town are the ruins of Langholm Castle, a castle of the Armstrong clan from the 16th century, of which only one wall remaining is obtained. On a hill is an obelisk erected in honor of John Malcolm. In the city there is a monument in honor of Pulteney Malcolm. With Glentarras and Langholm Langholm was the site of two whiskey distilleries. Both, however, were closed at the beginning of the 20th century.
