Lanosterol synthase

The lanosterol synthase, the enzyme that catalyzes the cyclization of squalene epoxide in eukaryotes to lanosterol. This reaction is part of the biosynthesis of cholesterol in animals but also in plants, however, implement the greater amount of squalene to cycloartenol. Lanosterol synthase is located in the membrane of the endoplasmic reticulum.

The cycloartenol synthase in plants and in some bacteria Hopensynthase are homologs of the lanosterol synthase, which are related to evolutionary biology with her.

Expression of lanosterol synthase is regulated by the concentration of HDAC3 in the nucleus.

Catalyzed reaction

(S)- squalene -2 ,3 -epoxide to lanosterol is cyclized.
