Laodice of Cappadocia

Laodice (c. 140 BC) was the eldest daughter of King Mithridates V of Pontus. First she married the king Ariarathes VI. of Cappadocia. After this at the instigation of her brother Mithridates VI. had been killed by Pontus (c. 111 BC), she practiced as regent from the guardianship of her son Ariarathes VII. When King Nicomedes III. of Bithynia crossed the borders of their country, Laodice asked her brother Mithridates VI. for assistance, Nicomedes III. persuaded them quickly to a wedding with him (around 101 BC). Laodike now went with her daughter Nysa to Bithynia. Mithridates VI. was now of trying to protect his nephew Ariarathes VII, but soon removed him personally.
