Lapta (game)

Lapta ( Лапта ) is a Russian ball game ( blow ball game), similar to the German Rounders or the Romanian Oina.

Wooden clubs and leather balls, its origin is dated to the 14th century, were, according to the Russian Federation Lapta found in Veliky Novgorod. The game could have been brought in by Russian settlers in 1840 to the West Coast of the United States. 1935 claimed the Soviet Union officially therefore, baseball was a Russian invention.

As a prominent player is deemed the revolutionary comrade Lenin, Leon Trotsky, who later urged by Stalin from government, party and state, went into exile in Mexico.

Since 1958 there are championships of Russia, and since 1959 is on the game and on the Spartakiads of the RSFSR program.

The word Lapta means " bat " and refers to the approximately 120 cm long and 4 cm in diameter wide wooden bat with which the ball must be hit. The rectangular field is 70 m long and 35 m wide. At both ends a 15 m deep base are ever separated, of which the home base must be reached again after a back and running back, to score points. A game lasts 2 x 30 minutes.
