Larry Gates

Larry Gates (* September 24 1915 in St. Paul, Minnesota, † 12 December 1996 in Sharon, Connecticut ) was an American actor. Gates has played in numerous stage plays, films and television series, usually in supporting roles.

Life and career

While studying at the University of Minnesota Gates began to play in the student theater. In 1938 he went to become an actor in New York. His Broadway debut was in 1939 in the play Speak of the Devil. Later he acted in plays such as The little tea house or the 1958 My Bell Book and Candle filmed Bell, Book and Candle. For his supporting role in the courtroom drama A Case of Libel, he was nominated for a 1963 Tony Award. Except in Broadway productions he appeared in plays by Molière, Bernard Shaw, and especially Shakespeare, in which he plays. In addition to his work in the theater began his film career with a first supporting role in 1952 in Glory Alley, a film which was not sold in Germany. From 1983 until his death he played prosecutor HB Lewis on the soap opera Guiding Light. For this role he received an Emmy in 1985. He was nominated three times for an Emmy.

Larry Gates died in 1996 at the age of 81 years from leukemia.
