Lassa-Virus

The Lassa virus, causative agent of Lassa fever is an enveloped single- (-)- strand RNA virus = ss ( - ) RNA from the family and genus Arenaviridae arenavirus. At the same virus group also includes the causative agent of Junin fever and Machupo fever. They all are assigned the highest security level (S4). From Lassa virus four serological subtypes are known so far:

  • Type of Nigeria
  • Type of Sierra Leone
  • Type Liberia
  • Type Central African Republic
