Tangier pea ( Lathyrus tingitanus )

The Tangier- pea ( Lathyrus tingitanus ) is a species of the genus of grass pea ( Lathyrus ) in the legume family ( Fabaceae ). The specific epithet tingitanus refers to the Moroccan city of Tangier.

Features

The Tangier pea is an annual climbing plant, which reaches stature heights of 60 to 120 centimeters. The stem is winged bald and broad. The leaflets of the single pair of leaves are ovate to lanceolate.

The racemose inflorescence is usually one to dreiblütig. The two to three inches very large crown is bright purple. The calyx teeth are approximately equal in length or slightly shorter than the tube. The sleeve is bald.

The flowering period extends from April to June.

Occurrence

The distribution area covers the western Mediterranean, as well as Portugal and the Canary Islands. As the site walls and bushes are preferred.
