Lauberhorn

The Lauberhorn is a 2,472 m above sea level. M. high summit in the Bernese Alps above the Kleine Scheidegg. Celebrity has the not particularly prominent peaks obtained by the annual Lauberhorn downhill race that starts just below the summit.

The Lauberhorn is located between the valley of Grindelwald in the east and the Lauterbrunnen valley in the west at Wengen. It is part of a ridge that starts at the western foothills of the Eiger and from there via the Kleine Scheidegg to the north- west to the Lauberhorn and further north on the Tschuggen ( 2'521 m above sea level. M. ) to Male ( 2'343 m ü. M. ) drags on, where it drops steeply into the valley of the Black Lütschinen. A southwestern foothills of the Lauberhorn, the Lauberhornschulter ( 2'317 m above sea level. M. ), stretching towards Wengern. A small artificial lake below the Lauberhornschulter used for snowmaking.

As with other mountains of the Axen - ceiling that consists of 180 million year old marly shales of the Middle Jurassic, the Lauberhorn falls in the west ( to Wengen ) and north steep rock walls, while the south-eastern flank is less steep.

The name probably derives from an old form of the word avalanche. The Lauberhorn is easily accessible for tourists, since in 1893 reached the Wengernalpbahn the Kleine Scheidegg. At that time there were also plans for a cable car from there on Lauberhorn, but this was never realized. Hikers can climb the mountain in about an hour from the Kleine Scheidegg.

In winter, the international ski to the ski mountain (. 2'061 m asl ) from the Kleine Scheidegg is a chairlift on the Lauberhorn. The hill station is situated at 2'394 m above sea level.
