Laure Prouvost

Laure Prouvost (* 1978 in Croix, Nord ) is a French filmmaker and artist. She received in 2013 the prestigious Turner Prize.

Life and work

Born near the French city of Lille Prouvost went to a local school with a focus on art and studied from 1999 to 2002 at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, University of the Arts London. From 2007 to 2010 she continued her studies at Goldsmiths College, University of London.

Laure Prouvost works as video and multimedia artist. 2010 her short film monologue was awarded at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen with a grand prize, which he attested to the jury, among other " subversive humor ". For her film The Artist 2011 she received again a main prize of the festival in Oberhausen.

After Prouvost 2010 has exhibited at the Tate Britain for the first time, it belonged in 2013 to the candidates for the award of the Turner Prize. When drawing up the candidates in the Northern Ireland Derry, she showed the video installation Wantee, which is a fictional tea ceremony between the German artist Kurt Schwitters and her grandfather. The jury praised the work as " outstanding and moving" and recognized her for the award.

The artist is the mother of a daughter and lives in London.
