Croix (Nord)

Croix is a northern French village with 20.483 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Nord, in the Nord -Pas -de -Calais. It is part of the municipality of composite Lille Métropole Urban Community. The municipal area is directly connected to the city of Roubaix and is incorporated in its administrative area Roubaix -Ouest. Residents of Croix are called in French Croisiens.

Location

Croix is located approximately eight kilometers to the northeast of Lille and two kilometers in the southwest of Roubaix '. At the municipal area adjacent to Hem (southeast), Roubaix (North East), Villeneuve d'Ascq (south) and Wasquehal (southwest).

In the northwest Croix is limited in a straight line from the Canal de Roubaix. On the opposite side of the church is Mouvaux.

History

Croix was the ruler of Croix de la Fontaine in the Middle Ages seat. The town was first mentioned in 1066 in a charter of Count Baldwin V of Flanders. 1617 Croix will be charged to the county and gave his name to one of France's oldest noble families.
