Laurent Tirard ( born February 18, 1967) is a French screenwriter and film director.

Biography

Tirard studied from 1985 to 1989 making films at the film school at New York University. He then worked as a script reader for Warner Bros. before he wrote for six years as a journalist with the French Filmemagazion Studio. During this time he wrote several screenplays that were all rejected. The comedy Mensonges et Trahisons et plus si ... affinités was published in 2004 in French cinemas and was seen by over 740,000 viewers.

Larger gained fame Tirard 2007 than the historical film Molière was released in theaters. The fictional film about the eponymous French playwright Molière was seen by 1.4 million French moviegoers and Tirard got together with his co- authors Grégoire Vigneron at the award ceremony of the French César Film Awards 2008 nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

He had his greatest success, however, as he filmed the French children's book The Little Nick with the same title. About 5.5 million French viewers watched the 2009 movie in theaters. In Germany the film opened on August 26, 2010 in the cinemas and was seen by 366,251 viewers. In addition Tirard 2010 received his second Cesar nomination, again together with Vigneron, this time adapted for Best Screenplay.
