Lawspeaker
The Lögsögumaður was the spokesman laws in ancient Iceland.
Function
His job was to recite a third of the annual laws. To this end, he stood on the laws rocks ( Lögberg ) in the Allmännerschlucht ( Almannagjá ). Due to the special acoustics of the canyon you could hear him well. He was not a judge. However, he managed the annual Alþingstreffen at Þingvellir. This office was established at the founding of the Althing 930. The legislative speaker was elected for a term of three years.
