Lazër Mjeda

Lazer Mjeda ( born March 6, 1869 in Mjedja ( Zadrima ); † July 8, 1935 ) was an Albanian bishop.

Life

In 1875 he entered the Pontifical Seminary Shkodra. On August 10, 1891, he was awarded by Archbishop Pasquale Guerini ( 1821-1911 ) in Shkodra priestly ordination.

He served as pastor of Plélan ( Diocese panel). The election of the bishop of Sapa took place on March 28, 1900, consecrated bishop on 20 January 1901 in Shkodra by Archbishop Guerini. On August 16, 1905 he was transferred to Shkodra. Together with his brother, the writer D. NDRE Mjedja, he founded in Shkodra, the linguistic - literary society " Agimi " (Eng. The Dawn). On April 14, 1909 Pope Pius X Mjedja offset the Archdiocese of Skopje, 12 years later, he was transferred back to Shkodra. On February 14, 1922 Mjedja arrived in Shkodra and performed until his death in 1935 a significant contribution to restoring orderly ecclesiastical conditions in Albania.

Without the help Mjedjas Qemali Ismail (1844-1919) could not proclaim the independence of Albania Vlora on 28 November 1912 because although a check to finance the trip had, but did not cash the bank him. So organized Archbishop Mjedja for Qemali with the help of the Austrian government a charter ship to Vlora. As Mjedja in February 1913 returned from London, he had confidence that the political London and Vienna will secure the affiliation Shkodras to Albania.
