Lazy-Jack

Lazy -Jacks, also called idlers, are lines that are stretched diagonally between mast and boom and run the sail, for example, the mainsail or spanker, the sails mountains.

When sailing mountains without Lazy-Jacks the sail by hand must be placed on the tree, with a bay of the sail alternately to the left and a bay must be guided to the right. Lazy-Jacks take on this task, the sail being stored by the lines automatically on the tree without the sail bays can slide down from the tree.

It can additionally be mounted between the lazy jacks and the tree a Lazy Bag, which accommodates the sail as a tonneau cover. When sailing mountains here the sail falls through the Lazy-Jacks performed automatically in the Lazy Bag, which is finally closed by a zipper on its top, so that the sail is securely stowed.

Benefits

A special advantage of lazy jacks and a lazy Bag is thus that the sails, can be performed entirely from the cockpit. For example, must in a heavy swell, no person leave the cockpit, whereby safety is significantly increased on board.

Disadvantages

When setting the sail must be taken to ensure that the ship is exactly in the wind, because otherwise can hook the ends of the battens in the Lazy-Jacks. Another disadvantage of the jacks, and especially the Lazy bag, the aerodynamic resistance.
