Le Chambon-Feugerolles

Le Chambon- Feugerolles is a commune in the Loire department in the Rhône -Alpes. It belongs administratively to the arrondissement of Saint- Étienne and the eponymous canton of Le Chambon - Feugerolles whose capital it is. The 12,496 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) of the city identify themselves as Cham Bonn Aires.

Geography

Le Chambon- Feugerolles located about 60 kilometers southwest of Lyon in the Massif Central. The town lies on the River Ondaine, a small tributary of the upper Loire.

History

During the Middle Ages the castle of Feugerolles, which was built in 1260 by Hugues de Lavieu, the area towered. Soon Le Chambon- Feugerolles became a center of blacksmithing. 1832, the municipalities Le Chambon and Feugerolles were merged. 1843 originated with Marie La Rica an independent municipality.
