Le Méridien

Le Méridien is an international hotel chain in the four-and five -star category and brand of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.

History

It was founded to offer European hotel standard in 1972 as subsidiary of the French airline Air France, originally used to house the own crews and to the European passengers to the destinations.

The first hotel was a 1000 -room house in Paris, Le Méridien Etoile. Within two years, the group had built ten hotels in Europe and two in Africa. Four years later, there were 21 hotels in Europe, Africa, the French West Indies, Canada, South America, the Middle East and Mauritius. 1991, there were 58 hotels and resorts worldwide.

1994 was taken over by the British Le Meridien hotel company Forte Hotel Group, which was acquired again in 1996 by the Granada Group plc. In 2000, the chain was sold to Compass Group. 2001 bought Nomura International plc Le Meridien for 1.9 billion British pounds and led the chain with the principal hotels together. In December 2003, Lehman Brothers Holdings acquired the entire chain. The chain cooperated 2000-2005 to improve marketing in the Asia -Pacific and North American market with the 46 houses of the hotel chain Hotels Nikko Japanese Japan Airlines.

Since 24 November 2005, the chain is officially listed as brand of the hotel group Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide.

Business

Since the takeover in 2005 by Starwood Hotels & Resorts is Robert E. Riley is no longer the CEO (Chief Executive Officer, dt, CEO ') of Le Méridien. Also under his command structure Manager ( Regional Managing Director (MD) for the five areas of Africa & Indian Ocean, America & Caribbean, Asia & Pacific, Europe, Middle East & West Asia ) was dissolved with it. Instead Riley joined the Senior Vice President (SVP ) Le Meridien Operations, Michael Wale.

In Germany, J. Georg Keck CEO of Starman Hotels ( Germany ) GmbH, referred to as Area Director, Le Meridien, Central Europe & Russia. He is also General Manager of Le Méridien Parkhotel Frankfurt. Keck are subordinated to all other German general manager. The General Managers are the directors of one or more hotels.

Brands

Le Méridien is divided into three brands:

  • Le Meridien for houses upscale four and five star
  • Le Royal Meridien for houses in the upscale five-star category
  • Art & Tech for homes with more modern and at the same time artful device

Locations

As of November 2013, 120 hotel locations spread across Asia, the Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the former French and British colonies. The last hotel in Australia was closed in Melbourne 2005. In Europe, the chain in Munich, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Vienna have opened in recent years hotels.
