Le Parnasse contemporain

Le Parnasse contemporain (Eng. " The Contemporary Parnassus" ) is a three-volume anthology of poems which appeared in the Parisian publisher Alphonse Lemerre 1866, 1871 and 1876. The title was the literary movement of the Parnassian, a stage found here for their work, the name.

The Anthology (Vol. I came first in 18 consecutively published booklets out ) contains works by 99 authors, including Charles Leconte de Lisle, Théodore de Banville, José -Maria de Heredia, Théophile Gautier, Catulle Mendès, Charles Baudelaire, Sully Prudhomme, Stéphane Mallarmé, François Coppée, Charles Cros, Léon Dierx, Louis Ménard, Paul Verlaine, Auguste Villiers de L' Isle Adam and Anatole France.

Le Parnasse contemporain distinguished by an innovative understanding of literature, the first volume contained in particular poems from Baudelaire's Les Fleurs du Mal. But Lemerre and his editor Anatole France wore the more lyrical development towards symbolism and not rejected, for example, Mallarmé's L' Après -midi d'un faune from the band of 1876.
