Le Pin-en-Mauges

Le Pin -en- Mauges is a commune with 1348 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ). It is located in the department of Maine -et -Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire.

Location

Le Pin -en- Mauges is located approximately 95 meters above sea level. inst in the landscape of Mauges. Distance to Angers is approximately 42 km ( driving distance ) in a northeasterly direction. The capital of the canton, Beaupréau lies about 10 kilometers south-west.

Demographics

In the first census in France in 1793, the city had 768 inhabitants.

Economy

The area around the village is dominated by agriculture substantially. But even in a commercial area ( zone industrielle ) new jobs were created, which has led to a slight increase in population.

History

In the years 1793/94 took place in the vicinity of the Vendée uprising from; one of the leaders of the insurgents, Jacques Cathelineau, was born in Le Pin -en- Mauges.

Attractions

  • Built in the Romanesque Revival style and neo-Gothic church Saint- Pavin dates from the 19th century. In its interior it houses some glass windows, which have themes and people of the Catholic- royalist embossed Vendée uprising to content.
  • An originating from the end of the 19th Century statue of by many as a hero of freedom - of a few even as a saint (Le Saint de l' Anjou ) - Jacques Cathelineau revered place in the town center. With his right hand he has a sword, the left is stretched up to the sky and holding a cross.
