Le Vieil-Évreux

Le Vieil- Évreux (literally, the old Évreux ') is a commune with 721 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Eure in the Haute-Normandie region. It belongs to the Local Government Association, Grand Évreux AgglomÃ. With regard to the area of the municipality, it is the largest municipality in the canton of Évreux -Est.

Geography

Le Vieil- Évreux is situated in the north of France in the east of the department of Eure, 83 kilometers northwest of Paris and 6 kilometers southeast of Evreux, the capital of the department of Eure. Neighboring communities of Le Vieil- Évreux are Fauville the northwest, Gauciel in the northeast, La Trinité in the southeast and Guichainville in the southwest. The municipal area covers 1157 hectares, the average altitude is 123 meters above sea level, the Mairie is located at an altitude of 133 meters. The hamlet Cracouville belongs to the community, it is located southwest of the town center.

Le Vieil- Évreux is a climate of type Cfb ( according to Köppen and Geiger ) assigned: Warm Temperate rain climate ( C ), fully wet ( f), the warmest month below 22 ° C, at least four months above 10 ° C ( b). There is a maritime climate with moderate summer.

History

Gisacum is the excavation site of a faith-based Gallo-Roman village in the municipality of Le Vieil- Évreux. The center of Gisacum is 200 meters northeast of Cracouville. Gisacum was built in the 1st century and abandoned in the 3rd century. The building of Gisacum were then used as a public quarry to the construction of the walled city of Évreux. The Great sanctuary was used from the 6th century necropolis. From 1765 to 1770 the ruins were exploited for the construction of the road from Paris to Lisieux.

1793 Le Vieil - Évreux was given the status of a municipality. In 1801 it was renamed Saint- Aubin and received by the administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte ( 1769-1821) the right to local self-government. Below the church first Saint -Aubin- du- Vieil- Évreux and 1845 Le Vieil- Évreux was time.

The hamlet of Le Coudray and Cracouville were amalgamated in 1810, the town of Saint -Aubin- du- Vieil- Évreux 1845.

Culture and sights

In 2002, the 2.5 -hectare archaeological garden of the Baths was opened by Gisacum. It is open from March 1 to November 15 for visitors.

The Roman Catholic Community Communauté du Vieil Evreux belongs to the parish of Notre Dame du Grand Sud d' Evreux of the diocese of Evreux. In the Church of Saint- Aubin, there is a Grade II listed altarpiece from the 17th century and has been classified as a monument historique in 1944.
