Leandro Cufré

Leandro Damián Cufré ( born May 9, 1978 in La Plata) is an Argentine football player.

Leandro Cufré plays since 2006 for AS Monaco. The defender started his career in his homeland with Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata (1996-2001), then played until 2006 in Italy, including for AS Roma and then moved to AS Monaco.

Cufré won the 1997 in Malaysia during the Junior World Cup in 2000 and celebrated his debut in the Argentine national team.

He was nominated in the Argentine squad for the World Cup 2006 in Germany, but completed just a game. On 30 June 2006, he received in the quarter- final against Germany after a kick in the genital area by Per Mertesacker the first player in the history of the World Cup after the match, a red card, although it was not used in this game. From the Disciplinary Committee of the World Federation FIFA he was suspended for four this duty games. He also had to pay a fine of 6,100 euros (10,000 Swiss francs).

January 13, 2009 Cufré deprived of Italian citizenship by the Italian Embassy in Buenos Aires for alleged passport forgery. Then the French Football Federation Cufré detained indefinitely for the Ligue 1 On 29 January 2009 Cufré moved to the end of the 2008/09 season to Berlin for football Bundesliga club Hertha BSC.

For the 2009/10 season Cufre signed initially a contract for two years with his hometown club Gimnasia La Plata in Argentina, but then moved to Dinamo Zagreb, whose squad he belongs since 19 August 2009.
