Leandro Marconi

January Leandro Marconi ( born April 23 1834 in Warsaw, † October 8, 1919 in Montreux ) was a Polish architect who was active in his native city before everything.

Life

Leandro was a son of Enrico Marconi and the brother of Władysław Marconi and Karol Antoni Marconi. His mother was a native of Scotland Małgorzata ( Margaret ) Heiton ( 1807-1884 ). A cousin was the sculptor Leonard Marconi.

After leaving school at a Warsaw secondary school Marconi began his training as an architect. He attained introduced by the Russian authorities vocational classes architect and builder, First Class, Second Class. In his training, he was supported by his father, from whom he was involved in the projects. Thus, the two were working on the design for the Hotel Europejski. Together with his father and Jan Kacper Heurich he was also in the reconstruction of the Parish Church (St. Anne's Church ) involved in Wilanów.

His first large private project was the Villa Rau at the Aleje Ujazdowskie. Next he built the villa of his brother and built the monumental office of the Bank Handlowy at the crossroads of Ulica Traugutta and Czackiego. He built a palace in the Ulica Foksal for Konstanty Zamoyski and the Sobański Palace and the Branicki Palace at Aleja Legionów. For Gracjan Unger 1881 he built a gallery building in the courtyard of the Warsaw Potocki Palace. But his outstanding work should be the establishment of the Great Synagogue of Warsaw. Later he built churches also outside Warsaw and supervised several years, the renovation of the Wilanów Palace.

Marconi was an important representative of the eclectic architectural style with influences of the Italian Renaissance and Classicism. He was married to Bronisława Osikowska ( 1838-1902 ).
