Legal Practice Course

The Legal Practice Course (LPC ) is a practice-based postgraduate studies in law in England and Wales.

The LPC is the transition from a purely theoretical legal education at the University, graduating with a Bachelor of Law ( LL.B ) in the practice of the law firm. Visiting the LPC is a necessary condition for admission as a solicitor in England and Wales.

Full-time study lasts for one year, it can also be taken as two-year part -time study. The courses are regulated by the Law Society.

The LPC is not an LL.M. and no master degrees. The difference between the LPC and the LL.M. is that the latter is an academic degree, while the LPC prepare graduates to practice.

In contrast to the Bar Vocational Course (BVC ) of the LPC prepares for the office work at the law firm because this is also the traditional profession of solicitor. The BVC, however, is the traditional preparation for the activity in court. Hence, the traditional division of labor between the -working at the law firm Solicitor and the Barrister agierendem in court.

The training of an English Solicitors typically includes a three-year full-time program with a Bachelor of Law ( LL.B. ) and one year of full -time study in the LPC. Followed by two years of training as a " trainee solicitor" and finally the admission as a solicitor.
