Legality Movement

Legaliteti was in between 1941 and 1944, the third most important group of Albanian resistance against the occupying forces of the Axis powers. Unlike the communist partisans and Balli Kombëtar founded by Abaz Kupi Legaliteti movement continued to hold firmly to the King Ahmet Zogu fled, the ( exile ) government it as the only legitimate Albania recognized, hence the name of that grouping.

To Legaliteti were mainly officers and officials from the reign of Zog. Larger support the movement had in the Mati region and in the region of Dibra, because there the extended family of the former king was at home and had a numerous clientele. Except against the Italian occupation troops fought the Legaliteti trailers since 1944 against the communist partisans, who slowly gained at this time also in Central Albania the upper hand. The employees worked in part with the puppet government set up by the German occupiers together.

After the takeover by the Communists many legalists were shot. Some, including their leader Abaz Kupi narrowly escaped the end of 1944 with boats to Italy.

After the end of the communist regime in Albania, founded a small rightward splinter party, which relied on the traditions of Legaliteti and their names accepted ( partia Lëvizja e Legalitetit ). The main objective of the party was the reintroduction of the monarchy with Leka Zogu as King. In the political turmoil of the Lottery Uprising succeeded the party in 1997 to have to hold a referendum on the reintroduction of the monarchy. However, the Albanians decided by a large majority for the Republican form of government. Since then, the Legaliteti Party has no more meaning.
