Legion of Doom (hacking)

The Legion of Doom ( LOD later / H) was an American hacker and Phreakergruppe that existed from 1984 until the early 1990s.

In the summer of 1984, the group founded by a hacker with the pseudonym " Lex Luthor ". Model for the naming was a group of Superman enemies called " Legion of Doom" to the cartoon character Lex Luthor. A more computer - oriented group called " Legion of Hackers" was assimilated later, it came to designing the short form then used LOD / H.

The Legion of Doom was the editor of the underground magazine LOD Technical Journal, an electronic publication in the pecking methods and results were presented as phreaking tips, including instructions for building a blue box. The journal should appear regularly originally, but was ultimately completed only four times between 1987 and 1990.

The union later split into two factions. The member Mark Abene founded the hacker group Masters of Deception. He was followed by other members of LoD. As a result of the division, there was rivalry between the two groups, which were known as the " Great Hacker War".

Many of acts, which are typical of hacking and phreaking, such as the acquisition of computers or telephone lines, but also some for credit fraud for personal gain. Ultimately, however, the operation was not very successful, many accused were acquitted. In one case, the court threw in the judgment of the Secret Service " sloppy " ( sloppy ) preparation and recommended that " more training " ( better education).
