Leila ( German Leilis ) is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Kullamaa ( Kullamaa vald ) in Lääne in Estonia.

Population and location

The village has 54 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It lies thirty kilometers south-east of the district capital of Haapsalu.

History

The villages Kalju and the northerly Leila are historically closely linked. Beginning of the 16th century is Leila was first mentioned as Calge maior documented, however, Kalju minor as Calge. From 1796 the " yard Leilis " is documentary evidence that was also called "Greater Kaljo ".

Later the estate disappeared. 1910, the farmland to the Don - Agricultural Bank was sold for agricultural use.
