The Leimbach in Brühl

The Leimbach is a creek in the Rhein- Neckar district with a total length of 38 km and a catchment area of 140 km ². Its main tributaries are the Gauangelbach and the forest Angelbach. The Leimbach rises in Kraichgau at Balzfeld, community Dielheim, and ends at Brühl in the Upper Rhine.

Course

The source of the Leimbach is located in the district of Dielheimer Balzfeld. Thereafter, the stream flows from east to west through the town centers of Dielheim and in the hamlet of Horrenberg. With the Wiesloch at high water ( about 20 m³ / s ), a relief in Hardt Bach. The Leimbach now follows the course of the railway line Karlsruhe -Mannheim in a northerly direction passing through the towns of Nussloch and St. Ilgen through, right on the sand Hausen. North of Sandhausen it changes direction and flows in a westerly direction to the settlements Bruchhausen and Neurott passing up to Oftersheim. There, the Leimbach crosses from east Oftersheims from the northwest to the village to the immediately adjacent Schwetzingen. Here he goes right past the Schwetzingen Castle and leaves in Nordschwetzingen the urban area to be further to flow in a westerly direction to Brühl. It orbits Südbrühl in an arc and passes through the nature reserve Schwetzingen meadows. On the border between the Edinger Ried ( district Enghien -Neckarhausen ) in the north and in the south of Brühl Leimbach eventually flows into the Rhine.

Between the mouth of the forest Angelbach in Wiesloch, to its confluence with the Rhine the Leimbach is a so-called water first order pursuant to § 3 para 1 sentence 3 and conditioning WG the Baden-Württemberg Water Act. The same classification is valid for the side channels Landgraben and Hardt Bach.

History

The Leimbach enclosed in Schwetzingen already the old castle and received in the course of the construction of Schwetzingen Castle (from 1657) its current position and shape. The in castle garden lake and all other waters were at that time fed by two water works that used the Leimbach as the drive for the mill wheels of the pumps.
