Leipzig Hbf–Leipzig-Connewitz railway

The railway Leipzig Hbf -Leipzig- Connewitz was a two-track, electrified main line in Saxony. The short connecting path ran from Leipzig Central Station to Connewitz and led there to the main train from Leipzig Bayerischer Bf to Hof. She is shut down between Leipzig Central Station and Leipzig- Stötteritz since November 2012.

History

The Leipzig- Dresden Railway Company had always been interested in forming a large private railway company to further develop its network independently of other paths. After the nationalization on July 1, 1876, therefore, had to connect their lines to the already existing state railway network priority. In this connection, the connection from today's Leipzig Central Station to Conne joke was born. The Royal Saxon State Railways opened the route on 20 August 1878.

In the early 1960s the line was electrified in the project Saxon Triangle as one of the first in the GDR. On January 15, 1962, the electric train traffic was recorded.

With the establishment of the Leipzig S -Bahn service were in the years 1968 to 1970, the new breakpoints Sellerhausen, Anger- Crottendorf, fairgrounds (now Leipzig Battle of the Nations Monument ) and Marienbrunn reopened.

Construction

As part of the implementation of the City Tunnel Leipzig net additional measures have also been implemented on this route. Here, the City Tunnel has been integrated into the existing network, as well as requirements for the network of S -Bahn central Germany were created.

Specifically, were realized on this route since October 2011:

  • Decommissioning of the breakpoint Leipzig Ost
  • Decommissioning of the breakpoint Sellerhausen (upper platform)
  • Decommissioning of the breakpoint Anger- Crottendorf and laying on the route of the goods ring
  • Change of the S -Bahn tracks in the further course of the East ( Route 6361 ) to the west ( Route 6375, goods ring) and the freight train tracks from the west to the east side ( in direction Gaschwitz )
  • Transformation of the station Stötteritz
  • Laying the breakpoint Voelkerschlachtdenkmal to the track 6375
  • Integration of the S -Bahn tracks in the City Tunnel by renewal of the connecting curve to the Bavarian Station
  • Decommissioning of the breakpoint Marienbrunn
  • Transformation of the station Connewitz
  • Replacement construction of the associated bridge structures
  • Construction of new tracks including catenary, switches and noise barriers

In the train the network complementary measures for the City Tunnel, the line was shut down with the end of operation of the November 24, 2012 between Leipzig and Leipzig Hbf Stötteritz. The trains will be diverted via the Western Ring. The main reason for this was the ailing bridges in Stötteritz ( Überwerfungsbauwerk ) and Sellerhausen ( overpass over the route Leipzig- Dresden ) and the modified line network of S -Bahn central Germany. The total passenger traffic on the route from the direction Gaschwitz to Leipzig Central Station will be conducted after its commissioning by the City Tunnel.

To re-use of the disused section of line to set up a two-mile High Route is discussed under the name " Park Bow East". This would create an attractive link between the parks in the area for pedestrians and cyclists.
