The Black-headed beard runner ( Leistus terminatus ) is a beetle of the family of ground beetles ( Carabidae ).

Features

The beetles reach a body length of 6.5 to 7.5 millimeters. Your body is colored reddish yellow, the head, however, is unlike the similar ordinary beard runner ( Leistus ferrugineus ) black. The abdomen is black, the red- yellow-brown wing covers ( elytra ) are slim, oval shaped, widened slightly to the rear and carry longitudinal grooves. Your tips are usually colored black. The heart-shaped pronotum has only a narrow margin and is sold as reddish -yellow brown. The antennae and legs are yellow colored orange.

Occurrence and life

The animals come from the north of France over central and northern Europe east to Siberia before. You are lacking in southern Europe and are also rare in southern Central Europe. They live in reedy swamps, bogs and swamp forests in the north and in moist deciduous and coniferous forests and are rare. Overwintering takes place as a larva.
