Leka, Crown Prince of Albania

Leka Zogu or Drew ( born April 5, 1939 in Tirana, † 30 November 2011 ) was an Albanian politician and claimant to the throne. He was the only son of King Zog I, King of the Albanians, and his wife Countess Geraldine Apponyis.

Life

Two days after his birth, Italian troops in Albania joined in, and the royal family fled the country. Zogu was educated at English schools in Egypt and Switzerland, and later studied at the Sorbonne and graduated from the Military Academy Sandhurst.

With the death of his father took Zogu in 1961 in exile in Paris the title Leka I, King of the Albanians. Later, he lived as a businessman in South Africa, and built a fortune on. With the approval of the transitional government in 1993, he returned to Albania back. He announced to integrate the areas inhabited by Albanians of the former Yugoslavia in the state, and called for a referendum on the future form of government of Albania in which he would rule later on the model of King Hussein of Jordan. In the concurrent with the parliamentary elections in July 1997 referendum on the future form of government of Albania to the voters, however, decided to retain the republic. Zog refused to accept this result.

Following a decision of the Albanian government under Prime Minister Sali Berisha in 2006, Zogu was the former royal palace of his family back in the capital Tirana.

1975 married Susan Barbara Zogu, the Australian Cullen -Ward ( 1941-2004 ) in Biarritz. The only child of the couple 's son Leka Zog Reza Anwar was born on 26 March 1982 in Johannesburg.
