As a single collection of Lviv dominates the landscape between the Neckar, Rems Murr and the Berglen and is a landmark that can be seen from many places in the surrounding area. He is a relief arising on reversal witnesses mountain whose summit - as well as in Hohenasperg on the other side of the Neckar - is made of reed sandstone. As with many mountains around the summit and northern slopes are covered with forests, while cultivated on the Gipskeuper faces the south side of wine.

History

Is a widely held view that the Lviv in the 6th to 8th centuries was part of a boundary line between Alemanni and Franks, which was marked by surveys such as the Hohenasperg, the Lviv and the Hagberg. In fact, was the later boundary between the Franconian diocese of Speyer and the Alemannic diocese of Constance still in the 12th century near the mountain and separated among others Affalterbach and Poppenweiler each other. Meanwhile, a demarcation on the Lviv is however questioned, among other things, because they make it seem plausible terms such as Marbach ( = marrow or Grenzbach ) and welding Bridge (formerly swabesprugge = Swabia bridge ) at Erdmannshausen a more northerly boundary line.

Current use and conservation

The face of Lviv is characterized mainly by forest and vineyards. The vineyards are located on the southern slope, belonging to each half to Poppenweiler and Affalterbach, and the major site " Schalk stone " are assigned in the field Württembergisch lowlands. The forest areas Reuthau ( in the north), Ameisenhau ( in the west) and Sauhau (southwest ) form an approximately one kilometer wide semicircle around the mountain. In the east, the new development areas Affalterbachs snuggle up to a few hundred meters to the summit approach; with the " Lviv Hall " here is also the festival hall of the church. At the edge of the forest, above the vineyards, lies the mountain restaurant " Seven Oaks".

In Ameisenhau is the 15 -acre landfill Lviv, which was created in 1960 by the then municipality Poppenweiler in the woods and operated until 1989. Initially, foundry sand, rubble and rubbish were deposited there, and later served as a central depot for the eastern half of the district of Ludwigsburg. Since 1993, efforts to run for re-cultivation of the area that was planted in early 2006 again. In August 2007, the state of Baden -Württemberg released a grant for a pilot project, with a new method for improved degassing of the landfill is to be tested.

The area around the Lviv was placed over a large area under conservation in 1968 and again in 1995. The protected landscape area Lviv and the surrounding area comprises a total of 385 hectares on the southwest slope above the vineyards is a geological outcrop as areal natural monument reported.
