Small duckweed ( Lemna minor)

The duckweed ( Lemna ) are a genus of flowering plants in the family Araceae ( Araceae ).

Features

There are two lateral, rearward columns, from which emerge the lateral shoots to the foliage elements. The members each have a root. Central nerves are present, lateral nerves are present or absent. The roots have no leading strand. The root cap is rounded or pointed. The ovary has one or more fixed seed. The seeds are ribbed.

Occurrence

The genus is distributed worldwide, except for arctic and subarctic regions.
