Léon Dierx

Léon Dierx ( born October 20, 1838 in Saint -Denis ( Réunion), † June 11, 1912 in Paris) was a French writer.

Life and work

His literary debut was Dierx 1858 with his work " Aspirations poétiques ". In his early works he was more or less under the influence of Victor Hugo, Alphonse de Lamartine, and Alfred de Musset; in his later - mostly poems - he leaned more to Charles Leconte de Lisle.

As a magnum opus Dierx ' is considered to be 1864 published book " Lèvres close", which is held in a very suggestive style.

Through his friendship with Leconte de Lisle Dierx came with the circle of Parnassian in contact and Alphonse Lemerre took some works on the later became famous anthology " Le Parnasse contemporain ". As Stéphane Mallarmé died in 1898, Dierx was chosen as his successor to the Prince of poètes.
