Léon Heuzey

Léon Alexandre Heuzey (* 1831, † 1922) was a French archaeologist.

Léon Heuzey was curator of the Oriental collection of the Louvre in Paris. In the summer of 1878 he was the French consul in Iraq Ernest de Sarzec, who at that time in Tello (h ) ( Girsu ) initiated excavations made ​​aware of its findings. He then started in the subsequent period to conduct the excavations themselves and realized how important were these findings for Assyriology.

Already began in 1861 under the direction Heuzeys the excavation in the Macedonian city Aegae (now Vergina ), which continues today.
