Leon Pohle

Frederick Leon Pohle ( born December 1, 1841 in Leipzig, † February 27, 1908 in Dresden ) was a German painter.

Pohle was already 15 years old at the Dresden Art Academy. Supported by his teachers, he was in 1860 pupil of the painter Joseph van Lerius in Antwerp. After returning to Germany came Pohle to Weimar, where he joined as a student of Ferdinand Pauwels on the Grand Ducal Saxon School of Arts of the Weimar School. In the summer of 1866 Pohle left the studio Pauwels and returned to his hometown. After some study trips he settled down in 1868 as a freelance artist in Weimar.

Pohle's early works were also due to his teacher, nor very genre painting arrested. Later he found his own style in the history of painting. In 1877, Pohle up an appointment as a lecturer at the Academy of Arts in Dresden, where he received a full professorship. He made himself a name as a portraitist; mentioned here are the portraits of the painter Ludwig Richter and Carl Gottlieb Peschel and the sculptor Ernst Hähnel. Pohle took part in several exhibitions at the Academy of Art, and his work has been awarded with a gold medal. Under Pohle's pupils were, inter alia, to also the later Dresden Councillor Paul Poetzsch (1858-1936) and the Academy Professor Osmar Schindler.

At the age of 66 years Pohle passed away on February 27, 1908 in Dresden. His final resting place he found in Dresden Johann city on the Trinity Cemetery; his grave is not obtained.
