Léon Vanderkindere

Léon- Albert -Victor- Joseph Vanderkindere ( born February 22, 1842 in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean/Sint-Jans-Molenbeek; † November 9, 1906 in Uccle / Ukkel ) was a Belgian historian. He was since 1872 a professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (and their Rector 1880/81 and 1891 ) and from 1884 a member of the Commission royale d' Histoire. From 1900 to 1906 he was mayor of Uccle / Ukkel. His father was the physician and liberal politician Albert Vanderkindere; in this capacity he fought for the recognition of the Dutch language as the second official language in Belgium. Léon Vanderkindere was married to a sister of the Brussels mayor Karel Buls.
