Leonard Gershe

Leonard Gershe ( born June 10, 1922 in New York City; † March 9, 2002 in Beverly Hills, California ) was an American playwright and screenwriter.

Life

Gershe began his career as a writer of musicals. In the 1950s he also worked as screenplays, first for some TV series, from 1957 also for movies. He continued to write his own Bühnstücke. In 1969 his most famous and successful play on Broadway was performed with Butterflies Are Free. For the film Butterflies Are Free from the year 1972 he wrote the screenplay himself.

Gershe 1958 for his screenplay for Funny Face in the category was nominated for Best Original Screenplay Oscar. 1958, 1973 and 1974, he was nominated by the Writers Guild of America for the WGA Award.

Gershe died as a result of complications of a stroke.
