Léonce Girardot

Leonce Girardot (* 1864, † 1922) was a French racing driver.

Girardot was one of the best drivers in the turn of the century, however, went as " eternal second " in the racing annals. He drove to Panhard & Levassor, the leading brand of this era and its strongest competitors were his teammates Fernand Charron and René de Knyff.

Girardots " series" started with the second place in the race Paris -Amsterdam- Paris in 1898, continued with the same result at the Tour de France Automobile 1899 ( Paris- Bordeaux 1899 he was for a change of third parties ) to Paris -Lyon 1900. 1901 he was at the Gordon Bennett Trophy in 1901 finally celebrate a victory, a shadow over this victory threw the fact that he was the only one who finished.

In 1901 he founded with his teammates Fernand Charron and Carl Voigt, the race car company CGV, these cars were too unreliable. Only the Ardennes race in 1903 he crossed the finish line, again as a runner-up.

After surviving an accident in 1905 just barely, he ended his racing career. After his resignation to the CGV project he joined in 1907 as a design engineer at GEM, 1912 Importer for vehicles of Daimler Motor Company and introduced in his company Girardot in Puteaux own vehicles here.
