Leone Leoni

Leone Leoni ( * 1509 in Arezzo, † July 22, 1590 in Milan ) was an Italian sculptor, goldsmith and medalist of the Renaissance.

Life

Leoni was born in Arezzo and had a very eventful life, which led him to many Italian cities and as a sculptor Charles V after Germany, Spain and the Netherlands. Leoni finally settled in Milan, where he designed coins and medals for Cardinal de Granvelle Antoine Perrenot and Michelangelo. In 1556 he designed a silver Scudo with the portrait of Philip II, Duke of Milan.

Leonis son Pompeo Leoni (1533-1608) was also a sculptor. This went to Spain, where he completed the bronze sculptures that had his father designed for the main chapel in the Real Sitio de San Lorenzo de El Escorial. Pompeo Leoni had Leonardo da Vinci's drawings and notes and arranged them a new.
